TORONTO

Two 16-year-old girls face attempted murder charges after a woman was robbed and stabbed at an east-end mall last week.

Toronto Police said Tuesday the 26-year-old victim was robbed of her cellphone by two girls as she left the Scarborough Town Centre around 7:30 p.m. last Wednesday.

The woman was stabbed many times in the upper body and face when she chased the thieves in a bid to retrieve the phone.

“She could have lost her life,” Const. David Hopkinson said Tuesday.

Police were called to the scene and the victim was rushed to hospital.

“If you’re robbed, you give the people whatever valuables they ask for,” added Hopkinson. “Take a good look at them and give us a description. It’s not for you to confront them.”

Two teens were arrested Monday and each faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, robbery, and theft under $5,000.

The girls cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
