How Canadian: Guy drives ice resurfacing machine down road in July

There is nothing more Canadian than a hockey helmet-wearing guy driving an ice resurfacing machine down the street in July.
Unless the machine is plastered with a Tim Hortons ad.
That’s exactly what Peter Downs saw on his morning commute to work Wednesday.
The Grimsby, Ont. man was driving to his St. Catharines public relations firm’s office when he spotted what he said he thought was a road resurfacing vehicle going a few km/h near a highway onramp.
When the former reporter got closer, he said he knew he had to take a picture.
Downs posted it to Twitter when he got to work and by the time he left it had been retweeted nearly 1,000 times.
“Somewhere along the line Breakfast Television saw it and it got a second wave,” Downs said.
The picture sparked the hashtag #YouKnowUrInCanadaWhen that was trending in Canada Thursday morning. People began uploading all kinds of Canadiana pictures of bagged milk, Canadian geese and hockey.
But what makes Downs’ picture even more interesting is the ice resurfacing machine was far from home. He said the nearest arena was a few kilometres away.
“I don’t know where he was going, but he was heading in the opposite direction,” he said.
“It’s just funny because it’s the middle of summer and I think Canadians like to think of themselves as this hockey-mad nation and this just shows some of that is true.”
